When They Were Young

Did you know that some of the greatest inventors and most famous people in the world had trouble learning? It's true! Many of the smartest people in history had a hard time when they were little and in school. They could not read very well, and some were not able to understand history or mathematics. Some of these people include Albert Einstein, Galileo, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and even Leonardo da Vinci.

For example, Albert Einstein was a famous physicist, perhaps the smartest man of all time. As an adult, he was able to write and complete very complicated mathematical theories and formulas, but as a child, he was considered slow and unintelligent. He could not speak until he was three years old, and he struggled with mathematics in school. Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb and many other important technologies, had problems, too. He couldn't read until he was twelve years old, and he struggled with writing his whole life.

There are many modern celebrities who could not do certain things when they were little. Cher, Tom Cruise, and Whoopi Goldberg are all famous American actors and performers who could not read or speak well in their childhoods. James Earl Jones is another example. He could not speak clearly as a child because he stuttered, but he overcame the obstacle. Now, he is a famous actor because he speaks so clearly and dramatically. You never know what you can do until you try!
