About the Authors



RICHARD A. BREALEY Professor of Finance at the London Business School. He is the former president of the European Finance Association and a former director of the American Finance Association. He is a fellow of the British Academy and has served as a special advisor to the Governor of the Bank of England and director of a number of financial institutions. Other books written by Professor Brealey include Introduction to Risk and Return from Common Stocks.

STEWART C. MYERS Gordon Y Billard Professor of Finance at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He is past president of the American Finance Association and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research has focused on financing decisions, valuation methods, the cost of capital, and financial aspects of government regulation of business. Dr. Myers is a director of The Brattle Group, Inc., and is active as a financial consultant.

FRANKLIN ALLEN Nippon Life Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University Of Pennsylvania. He is past president of the American Finance Association, Western Finance Association and Society for Financial Studies. His research has focused on financial innovation, asset price bubbles, comparing financial systems, and financial crises. He is a scientific adviser at the Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden’s central bank).

PITABAS MOHANTY Professor of Finance, Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur, India. He is a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. A gold medalist in MA (Applied Economics) he is also a chartered financial analyst and a cost accountant. He has got more than ten years of teaching experience in investments and Corporate Finance. He has co-authored the Special Indian Edition of the book on Investments published by McGraw-Hill. He won the Best Young Teacher Award from AIMS in 2002, the first prize in two consecutive years in the Capital Markets Conference organized by the UTI Institute of Capital Markets, the prestigious Citibank Research Excellence Award in IIM Bangalore and the Best Research Paper Award from AIMS in 1999.
