Directions: Read this spoof article on clichés. In addition to the clichés specifically discussed in the article, how many others can you find? Which of the clichés you’ve identified show up most often in your writing?

Directions: Find a slang dictionary online, such as the Online Slang Dictionary, and count the number of slang words and terms for the word “car.” Are you surprised at the number? Why or why not? What is the place of slang in academic essays?
