What's New

NEW PEDAGOGICAL FEATURES OF 9TH Ed.

1. OB Principles: Based on the results of Meta-Analyses, these highlighted principles will be stated (and attractively presented) in the exact percentage of the chance for success (these mostly range from 60-90% from the about 30 meta-analyses relevant to the topics found in the text). For example, my own meta-analysis found, on average, there is an 84% chance that employees in manufacturing organizations whose behavior is reinforced with monetary incentives will outperform employees whose behavior is not reinforced. These types of principles will be the dominant new theme and market niche for the 9th Ed.

2. The View of Real-World Leaders: This boxed feature will excerpt relevant information from mostly published high profile interviews that will complement and reinforce the more theoretical, research-based text discussion.

3. Gallup Findings: This boxed feature will briefly summarize relevant findings from Gallup’s extensive studies of the workplace. I am a senior research scientist for Gallup Inc. and their book First, Break All the Rules (Simon and Schuster) was a best seller last year and they will be coming out shortly with a new book emphasizing the importance of concentrating on strengths (i.e., positive psychology). Importantly, Gallup bases their approach on hundreds of organizations and hundreds of thousands of employees.

4. Internet Exercises and Cases: The end of each chapter will have a new exercise/case requiring the student to use the internet.

5. Many new cases, exercises and boxed application examples will be included.
