Spelling and Sound-Alike Words

Summary

The importance of spelling cannot be emphasized enough. Even the brightest, most-well qualified applicant for a job who submits a resume with words like resumay or exsellent comunnication skils will be turned away.

English spelling is especially difficult. However, spelling improves with constant practice. Also, keeping a dictionary close at hand or using an electronic spell-checker can help you avoid embarrassing mistakes.

One key to spelling is the ability to break words into syllables.

Although there are no absolute spelling rules, mastering some general rules of thumb can be useful.

It is also important to avoid mistakes caused by sound-alike words and/or homonyms.
