Internet Exercises

1) Locate several police unions and police officer associations on the web. What types of information do these sites provide for officers? What are the missions and goals of each organization? Is any information provided specifically on officers' rights, legal representation, collective bargaining, etc.? For example, check out the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas at www.cleat.org.

2) Search the history of several small and large police agencies across the country. Have any of these agencies experienced police officer strikes? What was the purpose of the strike? How was the strike resolved? Next, find out if your state has any state statutes/laws that prohibit police officer strikes. Are there any local city ordinances that prohibit law enforcement strikes?
