Quadratic Equations, Functions, and Inequalities

completing the square  Finding the third term of a perfect square trinomial when given the first two.
composition of functions  A function formed by using the output of one function as the input of a second function.
discriminant  The discriminant is the expression found under the radical sign in the quadratic formula.
quadratic equation  An equation that can be written in the form ax2 + bx + c = 0, where a is not equal to 0.
quadratic formula  The formula that can be used to solve a quadratic equation.

quadratic function  A function of the form f(x) = ax2 + bx + c when a ≠ 0.
quadratic in form  An equation that is quadratic after a substitution.
quadratic inequality  An inequality of the form ax2 + bx + c ≤ 0 (or with any of the other inequality symbols) where a ≠ 0.
sign array  A matrix of plus and minus signs used in computing a determinant.
sign graph  A number line showing the signs of factors.
test point  A number that is used to check if an inequality is satisfied.
