Factoring

ac method  A method for factoring a trinomial.
factor  A factor of a whole number is another whole number that will divide exactly into that number, leaving a remainder of zero.
factor completely  To write as a product of primes.
factoring  The process of writing a polynomial as the product of one or more polynomials.
greatest common factor  For a group of factors, the largest factor that will divide each of the given factors exactly.
hypotenuse  The side opposite the right angle in a right triangle.
perfect square trinomial  A trinomial of the form a2 + 2ab + b2.
prime number  An integer larger than one that has no integral factors other than itself and one.
prime polynomial  A polynomial that has no factors.
Pythagorean theorem  In a right triangle, if a and b are measures of the legs, and c is the measure of the hypotenuse, then c2 = a2 + b2.
zero factor property  If ab = 0 then a = 0 or b = 0.
