The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award was created in 1987 to promote awareness of quality excellence, to recognize quality achievement of U.S. companies, and to publicize successful quality strategies. Awards may be given each year in each of three categories: manufacturing companies or subsidiaries; service companies or subsidiaries; and small business.

1. Provide a brief explanation of each of the seven areas that are examined in the Baldrige Award selection process.

The International Organization for Standardization is a non-governmental, worldwide federation of national standards bodies. Established in 1947, its mission is to promote the development of standardization and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services and to develop cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological, and economic activity.

1. Compare and contrast ISO 9000 and ISO 14000.

2. Discuss the importance of ISO 9000 for doing business in a global economy.
