a complete listing, but it will help you start. Good luck! American Astronomical Society The American Astronomical
Society's site contains information about current issues in astronomy,
as well as employment opportunities. Click on "Job Register,"
to obtain the job listings, which are grouped under "Jobs from Previous
Months" and "Jobs This Month." Too numerous to list individually,
these opportunities generally include Radio Astronomy, Astrophysics, Cosmology,
Observational Studies of Galaxy Evolution, and Theoretical Astrophysics.
Employers include Harvard Smithsonian Center, NASA Goddard Space Flight
Center, and Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum. A majority of the
listings for employment opportunities are within universities, such as:
Post-Doctoral Research/Assistantships at Brown University, Johns Hopkins
University, Columbia University, University of Notre Dame, and Pontificia
Universidad Catolica de Chile, and Assistant Professorships at the University
of South Carolina and UCLA. The opportunities are both nationwide, including
Hawaii, and worldwide. American Institute
of Physics The American Institute
of Physics - Career Services site has hundreds of listings, as well
as a Site Index, and is updated daily. A site for employers and those
seeking employment, employers can submit employment opportunities and
view resumes, and potential employees can submit resumes, visit online
workshops, and view job listings. By entering a keyword search, job listings
can be attained; under "Astronomy" there were 42 positions available.
These opportunities were largely for professorships, assistantships, and
post-doctorate research work at a variety of universities in the United
States and abroad. American
Physical Society This is the site for the American
Physical Society, and lists opportunities with the organization. There
is one current opening; it is for a Programmer/Analyst "needed for
the development of World Wide Web based electronic publishing server in
a Unix environment." The site also has a Summer Jobs Database
and a link to AIP Career Services. APS is in New York, so job openings
are usually for that location. Jet
Propulsion Laboratory Administered by the Jet
Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology
that performs research for NASA, this site lists jobs available within
the JPL. Openings are available for scientists, engineers, and technicians
in the fields of Physics and/or Astronomy. For example, a current opening
inSpace Physics requires an advanced degree, and the ability to
write proposals to NASA. All current opportunities are for the California
area, where JPL is located. NASA Homepage At NASA's site, click
on Jobs & Internships. Once the NASA Jobs page is up,
click on Job Information to access job listings. All listings are
for NASA, and cover a wide range of fields; under Civil Service,
there is a category for Scientists & Engineers, which lists the number
of openings, pay, qualifications and job descriptions. These openings
are located at NASA centers throughout the United States. National Optical
Astronomy Observers National Optical
Astronomy Observers, through the sponsorship of the Association of
Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) and the National Science
Foundation, maintains this site. Jobs posted were for an Electronics Technician
KPNO (Kitt Peak National Observatory), Secretary / Database Specialist
NOAO (National Optical Astronomy Observatories), Technical Associate -
Electronics NSO (National Solar Observatory), Electrical Engineer KPNO
(Kitt Peak National Observatory). All openings are for either Tucson or
Kitt Peak, Arizona. New
Mexico State University Career Center This site is maintained by Christopher
Garasi at New Mexico State University "as a tool to be used by
students (graduate and undergraduate) who seek further information on
potential avenues which their careers can take." The site includes
listings for industrial and governmental job opportunities, most of which
are "space science oriented." He also lists summer programs,
fellowships, and links to job search engines. All listings fall under
one or more of the following categories: National Laboratories, Government
Listings, NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates, Grants & Fellowships,
and WWW Grad Student Career Info. Openings are for a variety
of experience/degree levels, and are located primarily in the U.S. Physics Web Aside from job listings, the Physics
Web site includes several services, such news and weblinks. This site
has the option Notify Me where potential employees can be notified
through e-mail of vacancies that meet their specific needs. Listings include
research and fellowship opportunities at The Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory; Berkeley, California; Oxford University; and several other
universities. Many of the opportunities are in England, others are in
the US (such as Senior Technical Advisor for the US Department of Energy)

Web, this site allows potential employees to search by category: Open
Positions, PostDoc Openings, PhD Studentships, and Summer Jobs.
Also, entries can be submitted directly from this site, and are automatically
deleted one week after the application deadline. Opportunities are listed
for universities and organizations throughout the world, including University
of Copenhagen, Denmark; Universita di Bari, Italy; National University
of Singapore; and Northwestern University; as well as the Laboratory of
Environmental Physics and Chemistry, CNRS, France; Armagh Observatory,
Armagh, Northern Ireland; and Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research,
Kalpakkam, India. University
of California Observatory/Lick Observatory This site is for the University
of California Observatory/Lick Observatory in Santa Cruz. There are
both academic and staff employment opportunities. Academic openings are
for a PostGraduate Researcher "studying the formation and evolution
of faint galaxies," and an Adaptive Optics Specialist; both opportunities
require a PhD and related experience. Staff opportunities include Payroll/HR
Assistant, Senior Development Engineer, Programmer Analyst, and Deputy
Director at the Center for Adaptive Optics. University
of Pennsylvania Career Center Maintained by the University of Pennsylvania, this site is directed toward
those graduating with a Physics degree, looking for employment in their
field. There are weblinks to the American Institute of Physics, the American
Physical Society, Institute of Physics, PeaceCorps, Teach for America,
UC San Diego and U Penn's own Career Planning and Placement Service, which
is accessible with a U Penn account & password. All of the opportunities
require an undergraduate degree, except those listed by the Institute
of Physics, which require advanced degrees, and are located in the US
