As members of a multicultural society, we are faced with the challenge of getting along with people whose backgrounds, ideologies, and subcultures may differ vastly from our own. Arguably, progress has been made in reducing overt acts of discrimination against minority group members, but the question of whether prejudice can be reduced as well is a more complicated issue. This chapter begins by exploring the roots of prejudice and discrimination, and moves to a discussion of the potential for change.
