1		Your next-door neighbor has told you that her seven-year-old daughter came home from school asking for permission to join the gymnastics team. She also told your neighbor that the woman in charge of the team told her she would have to “go on a diet” if she wanted to join. Your neighbor is somewhat concerned about whether he should allow his daughter to join the team and how he should handle her concerns about dieting. You have watched this little girl grow up and she doesn’t seem overweight to you. What will you tell your neighbor?



2		Knowing you are taking this class in Child Development, your roommate confides in you that his five-year-old nephew has been diagnosed with a learning disability. He asks you exactly what this is and wants some suggestions for how his sister can handle the problem. He also wants to know if you think his nephew will need to be in special education classes or if the boy will be able to be “mainstreamed.” How will you respond?
