Exercise 15: Arthropoda
Exercise 15 is a study of the four arthropod subphyla: Trilobitomorpha, Chelicerata, Merostomata, and Uniramia. It begins with a study of trilobite fossils. Horseshoe crabs, sea spiders, and spiders are studied as members of the subphylum Chelicerata. A dissection of the crayfish (subphylum Crustacea) is the primary activity in exercise 15. A study of insect (subphylum Uniramia) external structure and the orders of insects follows this dissection. The exercise concludes with a study of insect development and a study of the relationships among the insect classes using cladograms in worksheet 15.1.
