Microbial Genomics

This chapter introduces genomics, a revolutionary new discipline in the biological sciences. After introducing some of the techniques important to the study of genomes, the chapter gives numerous examples of the types of patterns already being discerned in the analysis of the relatively few microbial genomes thus far sequenced. Functional genomics is then explored and the chapter ends with a discussion of the future impact of genomics on the biological sciences
