Arson and Explosives Investigations

Internet Exercises

    1.  The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms provides updates and statistics concerning arson and explosion incidents. Go the bureau's website at www.atf.treas.gov. Search the site for information on fire and explosion incidents for your state. The website also has information about arson and explosion training for police officers. What topics are covered in the training curriculum?

    2.  Many large police agencies and/or states have investigative units specializing in arson and bomb detection. Check several municipal and state police agencies in your region by using websites such as www.officer.com and www.leolinks.com. What are the functions and responsibilities of these units? Under what conditions do they respond (arson investigation, bomb threats, etc.)? Are any statistics provided concerning the number of cases they have responded to and/or investigated?
