Internet Exercises

    1.  Learn more about NIBRS at www.search.org/nibrs. Find out if your state has recently received any NIBRS grants. Read the brief report entitled, "Effects of NIBRS on Crime Statistics." How do NIBRS statistics differ from UCR data? What impact does NIBRS have on crime statistics? What factors need to be considered when comparing summary UCR statistics and NIBRS data?

    2.  Log onto your local, county, or state law enforcement agency website and find out if the agency uses mobile data terminals. If it does, in what capacity are they used? Are all patrol vehicles equipped with MDTs? Does the site provide any information on other data technology used by officers (PDAs, etc.). If so, what?
