Infancy: Emotional and Social Development

Chapter 6 illustrates the importance of children's early years in shaping their psychological and social well-being. The chapter covers several domains, including:

Theories of Personality Pevelopment. Five different theories are presented: psychoanalytic, psychosocial, behavioral, cognitive, and ecological.

The Development of Emotion. The role of emotion is discussed, and research pertaining to the emotional life of children is presented.

Social Bonds. The objects, functions, and formation of the attachment process are illustrated, as well as the effect of early attachment patterns on later relationships.
