Backspace  Moves cursor to left one space at a time deleting characters with each space backwards.
Document properties  Details about a file that help identify it-for example, a descriptive title, the author name, the subject, and keywords that identify topics or other important information in the file.
Document window  Where text, tables, charts, and graphics will be displayed as they are entered.
Drag  To hold down on the left mouse button and move the mouse pointer across text or to move toolbars and scroll bars.
Formatting toolbar  Normally appears below the Standard toolbar and contains buttons that change the appearance of text in a document. For example, bold, italicize, underline, justify, number, or bullet text.
Highlighted  Marked text with colored background and often white lettering.
Horizontal ruler  A bar marked off in units of measure (such as inches) that is displayed across the top of the document window.
Icons  Small symbols representing the command.
Menu bar  Contains File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, Table, Window, and Help as pull-down menu options.
Mouse pointer  Indicates the current position of the mouse.
Nonprinting character  Characters like spaces, tabs, and paragraphs.
Office Assistant  Provides a wide variety of help and tips on Word features and functions.
Overtype mode  To replace existing characters as you type; displayed as OVR in the status bar.
Print dialog  Provides printing options applied to the document and printer.
Print Preview  Displays text and graphics as they will appear when printed on paper.
Redo  Reverses the action of the Undo command. To redo more than one action at a time, click the arrow next to the Redo button, and then click the actions you want to redo.
Scroll bar  Shaded bars along the right side and bottom of a document window that allow scrolling to another part of the document by dragging the box or clicking the arrows in the scroll bar.
Scrolling  Moving left and right and up and down through the document.
Select  Specifying text or some option.
Smart Tags  Buttons shared across Microsoft Office that appear automatically to correct or help the user with an action.
Standard toolbar  Appears below the menu bar, contains buttons that execute popular menu bar commands such as Open, Save, Print, Cut and Insert Table.
Status bar  Bar at the bottom of the document window that displays information about a command or toolbar button, an operation in progress, or the location of the insertion point.
Title bar  This area displays the current document name and the program.
Undo  Ability to change a mistake in typing, deleting, formatting, and so on.
Word wrap  Flow of text between the right and left margins without pressing Enter.
