Action field  A field that asks the user to take a particular action.
Calculation  A type of text form field that calculates numbers based on formulas and cannot be modified by form users.
Check box form field  A form field providing a "yes" or "no" response.
Current Date  A form field that displays the current date and cannot be modified by form users.
Current Time  A form field that displays the current time, which cannot be modified by form users.
Date  A text form field that requires the user to type a date form.
Drop down form field  A form field that displays a list of choices.
Field code  A placeholder inserted in a Word document that allows you to enter variable data, ask for input from the document's reader, or launch another application.
Field identifier  The curly braces that begin and end the entire field code.
Field instruction  Any text you want to display as a user prompt, a phrase or value, or a bookmark to insert.
Field name  The name of the inserted field.
Field switch  An option you establish to specify the exact way Word is to display or format a field.
Form field  The special codes that store a particular type of information that holds a name, a numeric value, a date, or provides a list of possible choices.
Help  An arbitrarily long message that appears in a dialog box when a form user presses the F1 function key.
List box  See drop-down form field.
Marker field  A field code that marks an item for a particular purpose, such as an index term.
Number  A type of text form field that accepts only numbers in a text form field.
Numeric picture  A series of symbols and digits that specifies the format and content of the number.
Onscreen form  A Word template containing special codes in which anyone reading the document can insert information.
Prompt  A very short text phrase, appearing in the status bar, which provides insights about the selected form field.
Protect  An action that locks the fields in place so that no one can make changes to the field formats or other form field specifications.
Regular text  A type of text form field that includes text, numbers, symbols, and spaces.
Result field  A field code produces the answer to a calculation or causes a file-retrieval.
Text field  A form field that allows a user to type text, numbers, symbols, or perform calculations.
