1. For speeches of tribute to famous persons, you can find many biographies on the Internet. Find and print biographical information about a person you admire.

Possible Strategy: Go to Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com) and click on "Society & Culture" and then "People." Visit one of the biography sites listed.

2. Find an inspirational speech by one of America's great orators (such as Martin Luther King Jr., Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Jane Addams, or Chief Joseph). Write down at least one sentence that shows the use of stirring, emotional language.

Possible Strategy: Go to a speech archives site, where you can read or hear great speeches from the past. Some options: Douglass: Archives of American Public Address (douglassarchives.org), Historic Audio Archives (www.webcorp.com/sounds/index.htm), and the History Channel (www.historychannel.com/speeches/index.html).
