Read about Ghandi, and then return to King's piece. Do you view it differently now? Is nonviolent resistance useful in any situation? Are you surprised that it could be effective in such different settings as India and the south?

On this page, the 8th Day Center for Justice presents an account of the protests that were held during the 2000 Republican Convention in Philadelphia. Read this brief article in light of the King piece. Do you think this page accurately portrays modern nonviolent resistance? Do you feel the author has a bias that undermines his arguments? Do you feel nonviolent resistance is still a viable method of bringing about change? Consider the political that are of concern to you, and discuss how nonviolent resistance might impact them.
