Although our bodies ordinarily are quite capable in their
defense against pathogens, patients coming into an office
for treatment may be more susceptible to infections. In this
chapter you will learn the three levels of infection control
and their respective processes. You will also be introduced
to the identification of infectious diseases, the reporting
guidelines established by the CDC (Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention), and the procedures for isolating
patients. The importance of immunizations and patient education
regarding immunizations will be stressed as a
method of infection control.
