Although our bodies ordinarily are quite capable in their defense against pathogens, patients coming into an office for treatment may be more susceptible to infections. In this chapter you will learn the three levels of infection control and their respective processes. You will also be introduced to the identification of infectious diseases, the reporting guidelines established by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), and the procedures for isolating patients. The importance of immunizations and patient education regarding immunizations will be stressed as a method of infection control.
