About the Authors



Bruce Shade was an Assistant Public Safety Director for the City of Cleveland,Cleveland,OH. He is also a part-time paramedic/firefighter for the City of Willoughby,OH and a paramedic instructor at Cuyahoga Community College.

Bruce has been involved in emergency services since 1972. He started as a volunteer firefighter/EMT and has served as paramedic,educational supervisor,paramedic training program director,and commissioner for the City of Cleveland’s Division of Emergency Medical Service. He has also served as executive administrator and the City of Cleveland’s Disaster and Emergency Coordinator.

Bruce is a past President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the National Association of EMTs and chairperson of the Instructor Coordinator Society.He has served as president of several local associations and chairperson of many committees and task forces. Bruce has authored several EMS textbooks and written many EMS-related articles.He has lectured extensively at local,regional,state,and national EMS conferences.

Keith Wesley is an emergency medicine physician. He has been an active EMS medical director for 20 years and is a frequent speaker at state and national EMS conferences. He has authored several EMS textbooks and numerous articles on EMS. Dr.Wesley is active in both state and national EMS organizations and says,“Teaching the healthcare provider of tomorrow is my greatest passion.”

Though originally from Texas, he currently lives in Eau Claire,Wisconsin. When not working,writing,or speaking, Dr Wesley dreams of sailing to faraway lands.
