PART I (Chapters 1-2): Part I of your text will introduce you to the topics of ethics, morals and values. It will also introduce you to the use of stories, whether they are in books, films, songs, etc. to capture the meaning of the story and the moral message it is sending. You will see the differences, and similarities between cultural concepts and the effects these have on ethical theories
PART II (Chapters 3-7): The student will be introduced to the theories of ethical relativism, psychological and ethical egoism, utilitarianism, and deontology. The student will also have a better understanding of the concepts of personhood, rights and justice.
PART III (Chapters 8-13): The primary focus is on the theory of virtue. The student will examine and explore this theory from the classical theorists, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle to the contemporary viewpoints. Also this final part looks at the virtues of compassion and gratitude, ethics in the media, what is a just-war, animal rights and capital punishment.
