After reading the chapter, reflecting, and participating in the suggested student activities, preservice teachers will:

a. identify differences between assessment, measurement, and evaluation.

b. analyze the factors influencing assessment quality.

c. determine the benefits and purposes of both formative and summative assessment.

d. be familiar with different types of standardized tests and be able to interpret standard scores.

e. compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of teacher-made tests and standardized tests.

f. evaluate what types of teacher-made tests are most effective.

g. compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of specific selected response test items.

h. develop different types of test questions.

i. develop reliable, valid tests.

j. develop a grading system for a course they are likely to teach.

k. discuss various issues that relate to evaluating and grading student learning.
