program music  Instrumental music describing a story, scene, idea, or event.
armonica or glass harmonica  A musical instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin, consisting of tuned, wet glasses that are rubbed to produce a sound.
art song  A secular song, usually with a text of literary merit, intended for concert or recital performance.
sonata  Multimovement form for one or more solo instruments.
rondo  A form of composition, usually fast in tempo and merry in mood, in which various episodes alternate with the opening material ( AB A C A).
Alberti bass  An accompaniment pattern consisting of rhythmically regular broken chords.
ballad opera  An English form of music theater setting comedy and satire to popular tunes.
fife and drum corps  An early band, consisting of fifes and drums, which performed for military and later for entertainment purposes.
