Do some research on the shape-note singing books Southern Harmony and The Sacred Harp. How was Benjamin Franklin White involved in the compilation of each? What can you find out about the two different "fasola" traditions each book represents?

Using only the black keys of a piano keyboard, play the melodies of "Amazing Grace," and "Nobody Knows de Trouble I've Seen." Can you find any other simple tunes that use this pentatonic scale?
