Activity 1: Writing Practice Exams

Directions: Plan a possible exam for a course in American History. Try to come up with at least five questions. Then, exchange exams with someone else in your English class. He or she will take your exam and you will take his or hers. Choose one of the questions you are given and write a detailed outline (if you need to do a little research, that's fine). Finally, write an essay response to the question, using your outline as a guide.

Activity 2: Reviewing an Internet Site

Directions: Visit AltaVista and enter the phrase "taking an essay exam" into the search box. Then, visit a handful of the sites that AltaVista finds and choose one to recommend to your class. Write a one-paragraph review of the site to hand in to your instructor. Was it helpful? What advice did it offer?
