Chapter Overview

Most electric energy is distributed in the form of alternating current and voltage. Our homes and our factories are both powered by ac electricity. These, of course, are the major consumers of electric energy.

This chapter will help you to:

2. Explain and use the relationship between time and frequency.
3. Describe four ways to express the magnitude of alternating current.
4. Understand how a sine wave can be generated.
5. Understand the difference between, and relationship of, mechanical and electrical degrees.

7. Explain the characteristics and applications of delta- and wye-connected ac systems.
8. Explain the advantages of three-phase over single-phase systems.
