While the area of the lower leg, ankle, and foot is small compared to other regions of the body, it is a significant contributor to the kinetic chain of the lower extremity and can affect the performance of the entire body. The first section reviewed basic anatomy to give an overall picture of the structures in the area. Individual bony landmarks and soft tissue structures were identified, and assessments such as range-of-motion and manual muscle testing were explained, to give a good baseline of information for the area. Since the structures in this area are dependent on each other, the etiologies and treatments for the conditions overlap. For each condition, background information, assessment techniques, and treatment recommendations were provided.
