After visiting Cinqueterre, celebrated in the poetry of Nobel Prize Poet Eugenio Montale who was born in Liguria, Sara arrives in Portovenere by boat from Lerici. Lerici and Portovenere are also linked to other poets, in this case the English Romantic poets Shelley and Byron. Shelley actually died on his way to Tuscany from here. Sara is with a friend, and they talk of the excursions they are going to take the following day, from Genova (the city of Christopher Columbus) to San Remo, the city of the novelist Italo Calvino and of the Festival della canzone italiana.
