Affectionate love  Occurs when an individual desires to have the other person near and has a deep, caring affection for that person. The relationship, however, lacks passion
Passion  Component of the triarchic theory of love that emphasizes physical and sexual attraction to another person
Intimacy  Component of the triarchic theory of love that emphasizes emotional feelings of warmth, closeness, and sharing in a relationship
Commitment  Component of the triarchic theory of love that emphasizes the cognitive appraisal of the relationship and the intent to maintain the relationship even in the face of problems
Rapport talk  A form of communication favored by women that is designed to establish connections and negotiate relationships
Consummate love  Fullest form of love involving passion, intimacy, and commitment
Fatuous love  Love that contains passion and commitment but lacks intimacy
Report talk  A form of communication favored by men that is designed to provide information
Romantic love  Emotion with strong sexual and infatuation components; often predominates in the early period of a love relationship
