Peak Performance: Success in College and Beyond, Fourth Edition, offers an instruction package that presents essential student success concepts and topics. This unique and integrated program provides a viable foundation of affirmations, visualizations, and strategies that will help students experience success in school and ultimately in the workplace.

All the program’s components work together to ensure that the students understand and can apply what they have learned. All components build on the same instructional paradigm—a clear useful presentation of concepts, followed by examples, applications, discussion, and reinforcement.

Features

Chapter Concepts

Each chapter opens with Chapter Concepts, an at-a-glance study aid that quickly maps out the chapter content.

Visualization & Journal Entry

Visualizations also introduce the chapter concepts. They are geared toward students’ self-improvement and help students envision their success.

The new Journal Entry activity is tied with the Visualization exercise. It is a simple journal writing activity to help students focus on the visualization activity. Ask your students to bring in a notebook of their own to use for writing all journal entries.

Learning Objectives

Clear and concise objectives at the beginning of each chapter aid students in identifying and mastering each chapter’s key concepts.

Peak Progress

In every chapter, Peak Progress features demonstrate the themes and concepts of each chapter and include helpful suggestions for students’ peak progress.

Personal Performance Notebook

Personal Performance Notebook exercises help students read, reflect, and think critically. Students are asked to observe, evaluate, and apply chapter concepts to their lives.

Performance Strategies

These strategies are found throughout the chapters as signposts in the margins. They correlate with the running text and offer students quick tips and strategies for success.

Words to Succeed

These quotes provide students with insight and words of encouragement that are tied with the chapter’s content.

Internet Connection

This new feature provides exercises that expand the chapter’s topics, linking them to using the Internet and the book’s Web site.

Tech for Success

This feature focuses on using technology, computers, and the Internet. It shows students how school assignments, their personal lives, and the world of work connect with technology.

Career in Focus

This feature provides real-world career profiles that illustrate examples of the relationship between the study skills necessary for college success and the skills students will need for career success. Work situations that directly call on chapter skills are highlighted so that students can see the interrelationships. Job category, related majors, and job market outlook are also noted.

Peak Performer Profile

Each chapter presents a noted person in the area of business, education, the arts, or public service. These peak performers have overcome obstacles and challenges to become successful. Students will see that having a positive attitude and perseverance are important for success.

Review Questions

This new feature includes five basic questions to help students review the chapter’s main concepts.

Re-visualization

This new feature has students revisit the Visualization/Journal Entry activity from the chapter opener page and asks them to apply what they have learned in the chapter.

Case Studies

The case studies are examples of students in college that deal with real-life situations that reflect the chapter concepts. This feature stresses that the same issues which students deal with in college also exist in the workplace; the same skills and strategies that apply to the classroom can be adapted to their jobs.

Chapter Application Worksheets

These practical worksheets help students apply what they have learned to other classes and situations. These templates provide hands-on application.

Career Development Portfolio

The Career Development Portfolio is a process that shows the best of each student’s skills, competencies, accomplishments, and work. When completed, the portfolio will contain sections on self-analysis, an inventory of skills and competencies, goals, educational and career planning, an inventory of interests, cover letters, résumés, and samples of work. Students can use the portfolio to create and update their résumés, to help them prepare for an interview, and for career advancement. The portfolio will give them the opportunity to assess their strengths, set goals, and possess an organized system of important documents. It will also help students explore possible majors and careers.
