altruistic love  Unselfish concern for the welfare of another.
B-love  Term used by Maslow for being-love, which is love for the very being and uniqueness of another person.
companionate love  A low-key emotion with feelings of affection and deep attachment.
conscious love  Rational, reasoning love.
consummate love  A term originated by Sternberg to describe love as a combination of intimacy, passion, and commitment.
dependent love  Love that develops for someone who fulfills one's needs.
D-love  Term used by Maslow for deficiency-love, which develops when another person meets one's needs.
dopamine  A neurotransmitter that functions in parts of the brain that control emotions and bodily movement.
endorphins  Chemical neurotransmitters that have a sedative effect on the body.
erotic love  Sexual, sensuous love.
friendship love  A love based on common concerns and interests, companionship, and respect for the partner's personality and character.
limerence  A term originated by Tennov to describe the intense, wildly emotional highs and lows of being in love.
narcissistic love  Love of self; selfish, self-centered love.
norepinephrine  A hormone secreted by the adrenal glands that has a stimulating effect on blood pressure.
romantic love  A profoundly tender or passionate affection for another person, characterized by intense feelings and emotion.
serotonin  A chemical neurotransmitter that has a stimulating effect on the body.
