Chapter Overview

On the GED Social Studies Test, you will need to think carefully about power, particularly about how it is delegated by and organized within nations. The delegation of power is authority, and its organization can be found in government.

The focus of this chapter is the democratic government of the United States of America as a case study of power, authority, and governance, with emphasis on the following concepts:

  • the creation of a democracy
  • the challenges of a democracy
  • the role and influence of citizens in a democracy
