Physics

Chapter Overview

Physics is often called the science of energy. This is because physicists study energy in all of its forms—mechanical, water, heat, electricity, magnetism, light, nuclear, solar, and geothermal. Physicists also work to explain properties of motion and behavior of matter both on an atomic scale, such as the movement of electrons, and on a large scale, such as the movement of planets.

In this chapter you will study physics as you read about the following topics:

  • laws of motion
  • force, work, and machines
  • forms of energy
  • our energy future
