Science and Technology

Chapter Overview

Science and technology are like two sides of the same coin. A main goal of science is the search for scientific truth about our natural world. A main goal of technology is the use of scientific knowledge to produce consumer products, from medicines to handheld telephones. Science leads to advances in technology; advances in technology lead to advances in science.

In this chapter you will study the interplay of science and technology by studying the following topics:

  • the nature of technology
  • how technology influences science
  • technology and values
  • concerns and limits of technology
