These writing prompts are followed by text boxes for your input. If you are working online and your instructor has given you the go-ahead, you can e-mail your work to him or her and also to yourself by copying your answers (CTRL-C on most systems) and pasting them (CTRL-V) into an e-mail or document.

Activity 1
Directions: Find a blog on the Internet that interests you. (You might use your favourite search engine to locate a blog relating to a hobby, a sport, music, film, or politics.) Read three recent entries in the blog. How well do the writers support their points? Do you find their points convincing? What kind of support could they provide to make their ideas more convincing?

Activity 2
Directions: Go to www.cbc.ca and choose a current article that interests you. Print out the article and underline the topic sentence in each paragraph. (You may underline only one sentence per paragraph) How easy did you find it to locate the topic sentences? Do the topic sentences tend to appear in the same place in each paragraph or in different places? Why do you suppose this is?
