These writing prompts are followed by text boxes for your input. If you are working online and your instructor has given you the go-ahead, you can e-mail your work to him or her and also to yourself by copying your answers (CTRL-C on most systems) and pasting them (CTRL-V) into an e-mail or document.

1
Activity 1
Directions: Pick a verb that you like or frequently use. Then go to the popular search engine Google and perform a Web search for your verb. What kind of sites did you find? Were you surprised by how people used the verb you chose?

2
Activity 2
Directions: Find an article on the Internet that is of interest to you. It might be an article about sports, fashion, or movies. Just pick something you would enjoy reading. Here are some sites where you might begin your search:

TSN.com
Elle Magazine
Internet Movie Database
The Globe and Mail
CBC.ca

As your read, practice finding the subject and verb of each sentence. Was it more difficult to do this in a real article than it was in the exercises in your textbook? Or was it easier because you chose the subject?
