Chapter 8 Key TermsThis glossary contains a list of important terms used in the text. Both the terms and their meanings are presented. This list is not intended to be exhaustive. For example, many of the HTML concepts are not included, but can easily be traced through the index.
animated GIF | A series of GIF images that are displayed in rapid succession,
thereby creating a simple animation.

| | | | clip art | A collection of images that have been developed using image
editing tools.

| | | | dithering | A process that approximates the color of each pixel in an image by using a combination of colors in a limited color palette.

| | | | freeware | Software that you can use at no charge. The author usually retains any copyright on it, and freeware frequently is unregistered. The
source code is usually not provided.

| | | | interlaced GIF | A form of GIF image in which the “whole image” starts to load initially, but appears blurry, and then comes into sharper focus as the download advances, until the image is finally complete.

| | | | lossless compression | A form of image compression in which no information is lost.

| | | | lossy compression | A form of image compression in which information is removed. The key is to delete information that has little or no impact on the appearance of the image.
