Writing On and Offline

These writing prompts are followed by text boxes for your input. If you are working online and your instructor has given you the go-ahead, you can send your work to him or her by clicking the "Submit Answers" button. If you are working offline, you will have to copy your answers (CTRL-C on most systems) and paste them (CTRL-V) into a text document to retain a record of your work.

Activity 1

In 1887, Dr. L. L. Zamenhof created a new language that came to be known as Esperanto. You can read more about it here. Dr. Zamenhof tried to make Esperanto a simple language that would be easy to learn. So he eliminated, as much as possible, things like irregular verbs. How do you react to the idea of an "invented" language? What might the value of Esperanto be? Do you think anything is lost in a language that purposely excludes irregular verbs or other strange forms?
