climax  the point to which a narrative builds; the point in a narrative when the outcome is revealed
metaphor  a figure of speech that compares two things
narration  a pattern of essay development: telling a brief story to make a point
showing vs. telling  the difference between demonstrating something to the reader through details (showing) and simply telling the reader an opinion or message outright; showing is always a superior method of writing
simile  a figure of speech that compares two things using the words "like" or "as"
