Desktop Publishing

Chapter Overview

This chapter gives a historical background of desktop publishing, and describes what desktop publishing is, along with features and operations. Desktop publishing is the second most popular computer application. Criteria for selection of a desktop publishing program are discussed, such as hardware compatibility, general program features, the program’s instructional design, ease of use, cost effectiveness, and technical support. A repertoire of desktop publishing activities for the classroom is presented. The chapter gives helpful guidelines for desktop publishing, as well as helpful Internet sites for desktop publishing tips, tutorials, and lesson plans.
