1. Search your state Department of Education’s website and locate the bilingual education curriculum requirements. Using the information about bilingual programs and English as a second language programs, how would you categorize the program adopted by your state? Next, use the Internet and find information about the cultural groups that live in your state. How many different languages and cultures are represented? On the basis of this information, do you believe that the state’s bilingual education requirements meet the educational needs of the students? Why or why not? 2. Look at the National Association for Multicultural Education website (http://www.name.org/). How does it define multicultural education? How does this definition compare with those discussed by Spring? Think about your own educational experiences: do you think you education was multicultural?
