Feature Summary

Pause-café is designed for the full second year of the study of French.
Emphasis on seven communicative goals that are presented and recycled throughout all six chapters.
Seven icons in the book correspond to the communicative functions and assist students as they work through the activities.
The points clés are the key grammar points needed to accurately perform these functions. Although each chapter highlights at least one of the seven communicative functions in turn, all seven are integrated into the chapter's oral and written work.
Blue grammar pages at the back of the book provide grammatical explanation and exercises for the structures that support the seven communicative functions.
Vocabulary is contemporary and inspiring for an intermediate French textbook.
The readings in each chapter, by classic and contemporary French-speaking authors, expand the chapter themes while presenting students with various viewpoints of French and Francophone life and culture.
The Coin-culture (Cultural Corner) section in each chapter presents students with a vast expanse of cultural information about the various regions of the Francophone world, including information about famous artists, Francophone cinema, and historical development of the regions.
The combined Workbook / Laboratory Manual (also available online through CENTRO, powered by Quia^™) provides practice of the chapter's new vocabulary and points clés through a variety of controlled and open-ended exercises. In every other chapter a diagnostic test enables students to self-check their control of the grammar needed to accurately perform the seven communicative functions. In addition, there are pronunciation and listening comprehension activities, as well as additional readings.
