Howard Gardner (see site below) disagrees with the authors of a recent book (Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles A. Murray, The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life. Free Press, 1994) on the respective roles of nature vs. nurture in the development of intelligence. Which position does he take? Do you agree with him? Why?

Howard Gardner believes that intelligence needs to be viewed more broadly than previously thought–that rather than a couple of intelligence measures, such as, verbal ability and problem-solving ability, we should examine a number of other "intelligences." Go to the site below and study each of Gardner's suggested intelligences. Then, prioritize those intelligences as applied to yourself. Which would you pick as your strongest intelligence, second, etc.? Which intelligence do you need to strengthen?
