The Corporation and Its Stakeholders
Chapter ObjectivesBusinesses develop complex relationships with individuals, organizations, and various segments of society. These relationships require careful management attention and action. Every organization is affected-positively and negatively-by its stakeholders. Stakeholder relationships shape how businesses behave in both market and nonmarket environments. In a world of new technologies, competition, shifting public attitudes, ecological concerns, and government policies, managers are challenged to achieve economic results while meeting the needs and requirements of their business's stakeholders. This chapter focuses on these key questions and objectives:
1Why are business, government, and society an interactive system? |
| | | 2What kind of involvement does business have with other segments of society? |
| | | 3Who are a corporation's primary and secondary stakeholders? |
| | | 4Why are stakeholders important to a corporation, and how can they affect its success? |
| | | 5What forces of change are reshaping the business environment in the twenty-first century? |
