Quadratic Equations, Functions, and Inequalities
Chapter 10 - Quadratic Equations, Functions, and InequalitiesAfter a review of the methods of factoring studied in earlier chapters, the method of completing the square is discussed, and then applied to derive the quadratic formula. You will be taught to use the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations, and to determine the number and nature of solutions by examining the discriminant. An overview of graphing quadratic functions is then presented, with discussion of the vertex and intercepts. Additional topics are then covered, such as using the discriminant in factoring, writing a quadratic with any given solution, and solving various types of equations that are quadratic in form. Finally, you will learn to solve quadratic and rational inequalities with a sign graph. |
