Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
Chapter 12 - Exponential and Logarithmic FunctionsFirst, exponential functions are defined, and examples are evaluated and graphed. The solution of exponential equations is discussed, and the application of compound interest is investigated. Then the inverses of exponential functions, namely, logarithmic functions, are likewise defined, with examples evaluated and graphed. The solution of logarithmic equations is discussed, and logarithms are applied to the topic of compound interest. Then the properties of logarithms are presented, including the Product Rule, Quotient Rule, Power Rule, and inverse properties, and examples are given of the use of those properties. The properties of exponents and logarithms are then used to solve more complex logarithmic and exponential equations, with practice in changing the base, and a discussion of strategy for solving equations. |
