Feature Summary

NEW TO THIS EDITION

  • A new chapter (Chapter 16) has been added to augment Chapter 15 on Laplace Transforms. It covers applications of the Laplace Transform, and includes information on how MATLAB can be used to numerically perform the operations presented in chapters 15 and 16.
  • A new appendix (Appendix E) has been added to provide a tutorial on MATLAB and encourage its usage in circuit analysis. Appendix D on PSpice has been upgraded.
  • The CD-ROM from the first edition has been upgraded to included the following: MultSIM 2001 Student Edition and 100 circuit files from the book are presented in Electronics Workbench.
  • The first edition Online Learning Center, which provides material for students and instructors, has been upgraded to include the following: updated solutions manual for instructors only, updated and new PowerPoint slides, updated web links, Electronics Workbench circuit files, updated network analysis tutorials and other tutorials, sample pages from the companion workbook, quizzes, learning objectives, and flashcards.

FEATURES

  • More than 200 fully worked examples, solved using a consistent problem-solving methodology. Examples are given at the end of every section. Some of the problems are solved in two or three different ways to promote an understanding and comparison of different approaches.
  • A Practice Problem with an answer follows each Example problem, so that students can test their understanding before moving to the next section. This gives students an immediate opportunity to practice the solution methods without flipping pages or looking to the end of the book for the correct answer.
  • The last section in each chapter is devoted to an application aspect of the material covered in the chapter. One or two practical devices or problems are discussed, helping students to see the real-world context of the material in the chapter.
  • The use of PSpice is introduced early and encouraged throughout the book. Additionally, an appendix serves as a tutorial for using PSpice. The appendix has been updated for the second edition.
  • Review questions are provided at the end of each chapter. The questions are multiple choice ones, designed to get at the little tricks which the examples and homework problems may not cover.
  • The last section in each chapter is devoted to an APPLICATION of the concepts covered in the chapter. These application sections help the student to see how the concepts are found in and applied to real life situations.
  • Problem-solving is discussed in chapter one to promote sound, step-by step problem solving practices. A book mark is included with each copy of the book to remind students of the solution steps (and to mark their place).
  • Several pedagogical aids are employed to reinforce concepts: important formulas are boxed, key terms are defined and highlighted, and marginal notes are used for warnings, hints, cross-references, problem solving insights and more. Marginal icons are also used for emphasis.
  • The Problem Solving Made Almost Easy workbook is available to students who wish to practice their problem solving techniques. The workbook contains a discussion of problem solving strategies and 150 additional problems with complete solutions provided.
